Anyang KGC’s veteran forward Yang Hee-Jong has been called back to the national team as head coach Yoo Jae-Hak confirmed the news to the press. “Yoon Ho-Young is currently out with a severely swollen toe and the committee granted me to invite Yang Hee-Jong back.”

Yang Hee Jong has been a member of the national team since 2006 when he was still in college. To date, Yang has played in two Asian Games competition. His first was in Doha Qatar and second was the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou. Now Yang is hopeful that he can play in his third Asian Games. “It will be a great honor to be playing at home, in front of the nation. So many great Korean players had this honor,” Yang said in enthusiasm. Hee-Jong joins KGC teammates Oh Se-Keun and Park Chan-Hee under Yoo Jae-Hak. Yang missed last year’s FIBA Asia tournament due to an assortment of injuries but it paved the way for younger prospects in Yonsei’s Choi Joon-Young and Korea University’s Moon Seong-Gon.

As for Yoon Ho-Young, his toe injury dates back to last year’s East Asian Games where he was forced to skip playing and Korea had to send an eleven man squad that finished third in the compeition. Yoon was a member of the Korean squad that finished third in the FIBA Asia tournament held in Manila. Injuries had forced head coach to dig deep into the player pool. Kim Min-Goo, the rising star is currently out and may not rejoin the national team. Lee Dae-Sung and Kim Tae-Sol are also out with injuries. “It is unfortunate but we must continue and put up the best team we can send,” Yoo Jae-Hak said.
